Why Does My Car Battery Keep Dying?
One dead battery is bad luck. A battery that keeps dying is telling you something. Here are the most common reasons it keeps happening, starting with the most likely.
1. The battery is simply worn out
Batteries don't die all at once. They slowly lose their ability to hold a charge, so an old battery may start fine on a warm afternoon and leave you stuck the next morning. If yours is three years old or more, it's the first suspect. Oklahoma summers wear batteries out faster than milder climates do.
2. Short trips
Starting the engine takes a big gulp of power, and the alternator needs driving time to put it back. If most of your driving is a few minutes at a time, the battery never fully recharges and gets weaker every day.
3. Something is staying on
A dome light, a glove box light, a trunk that isn't fully shut, or a charger or dash cam that's always plugged in can slowly drain a battery overnight. Aftermarket electronics like stereos and remote starters are common culprits too.
4. Loose or corroded connections
White or blue crust on the battery terminals, or a cable you can wiggle by hand, keeps the battery from charging and delivering power properly. Sometimes cleaning and tightening the terminals is all it takes.
5. A charging problem
If the battery warning light comes on while you're driving, or a brand-new battery dies within days, the alternator may not be charging it. That's a job for a repair shop, and a new battery alone won't fix it.
What to do next
If your battery is old, weak or keeps needing jumps, replacing it is usually the fix. Car Battery OKC does mobile battery replacement across the Oklahoma City metro. We bring the right battery for your vehicle, install and test it where you're parked, and haul off the old one. You can look up which battery your car takes on our battery by vehicle page.
Same-day service is $125, scheduled is $99, and the battery is the store's walk-in price plus tax. If the problem turns out to be something other than the battery, we'll tell you before doing anything else.
